One of the most impressive aspects of the whole Lizhiwan Canal restoration is how well it integrates into the surrounding communities. Many such canal or greenway corridors tend to be walled off from local communities or to have only limited access points. The Lizhiwan Canal, however, features dozens of access alleyways directly into the adjoining areas.
Since access to this network of alleyways is one of the best features of the canal restoration, the series must include at least one diversion into this network of often labyrinthine historical streets.
The historical streets are becoming popular destinations for offices and other non-residential (and non-'historical') land uses; a welcome development which may hopefully help preserve the dense pedestrian-oriented street network of the area.
