This cache has been archived.

parker_pants: This lamplighter has moved away from the Seattle area, so can no longer keep her lamp lit. Rest assured that there is a new lamplighter themed cache right around the corner, so be watching for that!

Geocache Description:

On planet #329, the little prince encounters the lamplighter. The little prince finds the profession of a lamplighter to be “a beautiful occupation, and since it is beautiful, it is truly useful”. What a nice thing to say! Help the little prince find the lamplighter, so the prince can compliment him in person.

The lamplighter is very tired. This is because his planet has been spinning faster and faster and now it is so fast that he needs to extinguish and relight his lamp once every minute. We’ll need to move fast to keep the lamplighter from turning his lamp on, yes ON - that’s right, this is a night cache, so come prepared! You and the prince will need two different types of “lamps” for this adventure.

From the starting coordinates, you and the little prince enter a lovely park. Walk past the yellow gate and up a few stairs, and then up a few more. There is a choice to be made. Will you go right or left? One of these directions is clearly the way of the lamplighter. Walk in that direction. Wow, it looks like the lamplighter has expanded his operation! Count as you go. You'll pass two curious boulders on the right. Once you’ve passed 11 of the lamplighter’s friends, head down the stairs in search of the lamplighter.

As you get to the bottom of the stairs there's a building to the left and a playground to the right. Go into the playground. The one thing the lamplighter likes to do is sleep. What better place to do so, than curled up inside the giant green lily pad you pass on your left. Hmm, he isn’t there, so let’s keep moving. Maybe he’s in the cave on your right? No luck. Keep going. Pass under the five arches. Now follow the path to the right and walk a few hundred feet. Luckily the prince brought along his own portable lamp, you’ll need it to find your next destination.

Of the lamplighter, the little prince says, “When he lights his street lamp it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower. When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower or the star to sleep.” Light your own lamp and soon you’ll wake a beautiful mural of flowers and butterflies. Take a minute to admire the lovely artistry. Walk clockwise. You'll find yet another wall to this beautiful mural. Walk clockwise again. When you reach a wall without mural, it's time to put away one lamp and take out the other. Search for a secret message from the lamplighter. This will direct you to him and his lamp.

When you reach the final location, take a moment to ensure that you are in the right place, as you'll be at a private residence, presumably at night. Look around. Is there a narrow, dark fence along the sidewalk? Does the residence appear to be green? Is there a tree in the front yard close to the sidewalk? If so, you're in the right place. Go find the lamplighter.
