Geocache Description:

29 February 2020, 10:00 - 12:00

The event will be held on the grounds of the Babcock Smith House which dates back to the colonial times.

Westerly RI is home to many old school families, huge houses, and a few not-at-all-old-school celebrities.

This is a chance to rub elbows with some of the more historic families of the area.

 Saturday, February 29, 2020 10AM - 12PM

There will be tours available, at the cost of $5 per person, please note if you would like to tour the house.

Also - It's a very special day for geocachers!  Join in on the fun!!

For those historians, we've provided a little more detail...

The Georgian Mansion (circa 1734) is the former home of the Babcocks and Smiths. The mansion is elegantly furnished with pieces reflecting the Colonial Babcock years, the Victorian Smith years, and colonial restoration of 1928. Historians and antique-lovers alike will enjoy all the museum has to offer!

More details on the Babcck Smith House

Personal Note: This house was part of my family for more than 100 years. My father and his brothers played in and around this house as children. He even had a secret rock in the stone wall that was removable and used to store some of his favorite "treasures" of the day. Only a few of his very close friends knew the hiding spot. Was this the precursor to geocacahing? I guess we'll never know for sure as the wall was repaired and the rocks cemented in place.

Any guesses as to what's cemented inside that beautiful old stone wall?

And...for anyone wishing for warmer weather, it's fortunate that the house sits on historic, US Route 1.  Head south and you'll be in Key West in-no-time-at-all.
