Annie OBE (1885–1961), a local Gordon resident was an active conservationist collaborating with many Sydney Conservationists in the 1930s.
She founded the NSW National Trust in 1945 and was active in the Tree Lovers league.
Annie grew up in Rooty Hill, witnessing the loss of bush land, forests and colonial houses on Cumberland Plains.
She was motivated in her conservation efforts in 1927 when she saw a Ku-Ring-Gai Council truck dumping garbage in the creek below her home.
She gathered the neighbours together and they formed the Ku-Ring-Gai Tree Lovers’ Civic League with the aim to promote native trees and “safeguard the natural charms of the municipality”
The Tree Lovers League inspired many people and conservation movements to preserve urban Sydney bushland.
Placed on New Years Eve 2019 at the end of a decade, for a new find next decade 2020s, almost a century on from pioneering conservation of Annie.
