This cache is in a special, fairly new public art sculpture commissioned by the Town of Addison and the Addison Arbor Foundation to commemorate the area's agricultural history. Installed in 2015, it incorporates pieces of a 1903 cotton gin that was once located 150 yards south of this sculpture.
The cache is tiny and magnetic. Please use care when finding and replacing it.
Initially kept as a "profound secret" by inventor Eli Whitney until he received a patent on his machine, the cotton gin was a remarkable invention that speeded up the processing of cotton. In fact, some of the wheels on this sculpture are still able to spin as they did a century ago.
