Cache #6: Lindy's Transatlantic Flight

Charles Lindbergh made the first transatlantic flight, by flying the "Spirit of St. Louis" from Long Island, NY to Paris France on May 20-21, 1927. His plane was a custom built, single engine, single seat, high wing monoplane, Ryan NYP with the registration of N-X-211. He practiced this transatlantic flight by flying his airplane transcontinental, from San Diego to New York.

Lindberg's plane was named "Spirit of St. Louis" because

He was born in St. Louis: N 41° 08.520 W 075° 22.202

With the help of financial backers in St. Louis, he practiced his transatlantic flight by flying coast to coast, stopping in St. Louis:  N 41° 8.902' W 75° 22.478'

As a co-founder of TransWorld Arlines (based in St. Louis), he honored the airplane with the city's name:  N 41° 08.723 W 075° 22.239
