The unimoggers' Roaring '20s 20-Cache Series is designed to bring you to little-known jewels within our region or to learn a little bit about the events happening during that time. We encourage you to read the complete descriptions so that you will have that "I didn't know that!" moment. Some are short hikes, some are park and grabs, some are lengthy hikes with each cache type presented for your caching enjoyment. They will be published throughout 2020 in no particular order. This one is:
Cache #15: Fieldstone Farm Tank
The 52-acre Fieldstone Farm Preserve, acquired in 2008 by Pocono Heritage Land Trust, provides a major and sustaining groundwater/spring fed flow to the headwaters of Tank Creek. This cache will bring you to the ruins of a home that was supposedly built in the early 1900s by the wealthy NYC merchant who owned the house in Devil's Hole (the ruins that are down the road from Fieldstone Farm in SGL 221). His name was Carl Telienius and he supposedly had the house built for his daughter. The house burned down sometime in the 1960s. PHLT bought the property from George Walker, who owned the water company in Mt. Pocono, but the chain of title was never researched to see how he got it.
Additionally, the property has two freshwater ponds, numerous hillside springs and wetland areas, and these remains of this beautiful old stone farmhouse. The habitat mix of old fields, mixed forests, springs, ponds, and riparian headwater stream area, combined with the spectacular view of Paradise Valley and the Delaware Water Gap beyond, make it ideal for both wildlife and public access. The cache is not on or near the ruins, as there are signs from the trust indicating the ruins are unsafe to explore. The walk is a breeze, only about 2/10 mile from parking.
The Fieldstone Farm Preserve Hunting Policy: This property is enrolled in the PA Game Commission’s Hunter Access Program. Public hunting following PA Game Commission hunting regulations is allowed during all seasons. For more information, visit PA Game Commission website
