Geocache Description:

In 2019 I got a message from the W.E.K.A's asking me if I had heard of LíB's OTD series in S. Austrailia and what OTD stood for?... I had no idea and after some research we had found out that it was a series called On This Day (OTD) with a story for each day of the year. Well that sounded like a crazy fun challenge and so the call went out to the Otago and Southland Geocachers to parttake in this series. You'll see in the description that the owners will write in either some muggle, geocaching or personnal facts/stories related to this day.

On this day.... 12 January

In 2015 i-gotit created their account on Geocaching.com. If you have been travelling around the area you like me would appriciate their toilet themed Geocaches around. Well here is a simpled traditional near another local reserve with some nice, cacher friendly toilets.

In 1954; a crowd of 50,000 greeted Queen Elizabeth II, resplendent in her coronation gown, when she opened a special session of the New Zealand Parliament in its centennial year. This was the first time a reigning monarch had opened New Zealand’s Parliament.

The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, had arrived in New Zealand shortly before Christmas 1953. Throughout their tour, large and enthusiastic crowds met them at every stop. About three in every four New Zealanders saw the Queen as she visited 46 towns and cities and attended 110 functions. As you go around New Zealand you will find a number of geocaches using plaques and trees placed during this royal tour.

Please feel free to include in your logs any stories you have regarding today's date and if you are an Otago and Southland Geocacher intrested in the series send me a message.
