Foxfield Preserve is a Nature Preserve Cemetery at The Wilderness Center.   Nature burial is an environmentally alternative to modern burial. A nature burial which some call a (green burial) is the true "dust to dust" burial.  In 2008 The Wilderness Center stepped out to the cutting edge of conservation as it became the first conservation organization in the Nation to start a Nature Preserve Cemetery.

Possibly the first thought to run through your mind is "What is a Nature Preserve Cemetery?"

A Nature Preserve Cemetery is a Nature Preserve first but it is also a Cemetery where people are interred.

There are huge differences between a Modern Cemetery and a Nature Preserve Cemetery.
A Modern Cemetery inter remains as densely as possible, often thousands of burials per acre and the lawnscape is well groomed.  For Foxfield to be a Nature Preserve, burials are spread out to only around 150 an acre and nature will dominate the landscape.  Another major difference is a Modern Cemetery a person is placed in a metal casket then placed in a concrete vault before covered with soil. A Nature Preserve Cemetery the person is placed in a biodegradable wooden casket or cardboard box before covered with soil so nature can take its course. Also, A Modern Cemetery has lines of possished grave markers and tall Monuments, Foxfield only allows a natural stone that lays flat on the ground.

This is a Cemetery--Please be Respectful of the Area--No need to go inside the gate.
