Geocache Description:

Welcome to another NYC subway multicache! Number 4! This cache will be following the J/Z train route. I mashed the J and Z trains together as the Z train follows the same route as the J, just skipping stops. Plus, it only runs during weekday rush hour in one direction. Some people call it the Unicorn train, the white whale, and many other names. Now, I know all of you Brooklynites are so delightfully confused, but also at the same time, VERY happy. You’re wondering out of all the train lines in New York City, why I would choose the J? For all you tourists out there, you probably don’t even know what the hell I’m talking about. There’s a J train? Where? Why? Now, the J train does take you to some very important and cool places. Yes, outside of Manhattan. Fun fact: Did you know how Jay-Z, the famous rapper got his nickname? Well, he got it because of the J/Z subway stop closest to his Brooklyn home before he was famous. Bet you didn’t know that! Alright New Yorkers, we’re heading off. And for tourists, let’s head off to the fantasy land of Brooklyn and Queens. But before we head off, I am pretty sure some of you haven’t done my other NYC subway multicaches before. Which means, you don’t know how it works. We will be stopping at 5 stations along the J/Z line. Starting at Broad Street and ending at Jamaica Center Parsons Archer. End to end. You are not being forced to do this all in one day. If you run out of time for the day, just do it the next time you’re available to do it. Anyways, at each station, you will go somewhere near the station and answer a question at that location. Don’t panic. Have you heard of an open note test? Well, it’s that. Or, maybe even better. The answer is right in front you. It could be on a plaque, it could be a sign, part of a sign, a color of something, etc. Also, did I tell you that it’s multiple choice? There are 3 answers to a question. Each answer will have a number. Let’s say that the answer you got had the number 2. Remember or write down the number. Keep doing that until the final stop, Jamaica Center Parsons Archer. There, you will add up all your numbers and see what you get. Down at the bottom of this description, there will be a bunch of numbers and coordinates to go to for each number. Whatever number you got, there will be coordinates for the number. Let’s say you got 8, it might say, if you got 8, go to the given coordinates: (coordinates). Remember, there is only one right number, and you get the number from answering the questions. Also, the different coordinates listed at the bottom are not far away. It’s not like one is in Italy, one is in Bangladesh, one is in Saskatchewan and then one of them is somewhere around Jamaica Center Parsons Archer, our final stop. So you have the idea? Great! Just one really quick thing: if you have anything against George Washington, this is not the cache for you. We are stopping at 2 George Washington monuments. Anyways, Let’s start!

Welcome to Broad Street! This is probably our most important stop for this cache. It’s Federal Hall people. This was the place where George Washington took his oath of office as the first president of the U.S.A. Federal Hall is also where the first Congress, Supreme Court and Executive Branch offices were. Federal Hall now serves as a museum to George Washington and how the U.S.A. started. By the way, this is George. Go to these coordinates: 40.707222, -74.010278

Question Time!

*******************

On the left side of the staircase (facing the staircase), there’s a plaque. What is the year/date on that plaque?

  1. April 30 1776
  2. March 21 1789
  3. April 30 1789

Go head over to your next stop, staying on the J or Z train. Take the J/Z to Marcy Avenue. Welcome to Brooklyn. Name it... we got it! You will be passing over the landmark you’re going to right after your train gets off the Williamsburg Bridge. I’m pretty sure you can tell where you’ll be going. Here’s a hint: Remember the last place you went to. Double George. If you think we’re going to another George Washington monument, you’re correct! Don’t worry, this is the last place you’ll see him for this cache. No more George after this. We’ll switch it up at our next few stops. For the 0.01% of you who don’t know who George Washington is, here is some background knowledge about him. He was the commander of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. He was fighting against the British. He later became president of the United States. There, now you have bragging rights that you know who George Washington is. Go brag about it to all the people who don’t know who he is. Have fun looking for them! By the way, this is also George. Go to these coordinates: 40.7104586, -73.9605423

Question Time!

*******************

What is the heading at the top of the plaque by George Washington?

  1. Valley Forge
  2. Revolutionary War Battles
  3. Geocaching Allowed

Once you have your answer, jump back on the J train and head over to your next stop: Halsey Street. The Z train does NOT stop at Halsey Street. Only take the J train.

E Plurbius Unum. That’s in Latin. Translated into English, that would say, “One from many”. It is the United States motto. See, everything has a motto! The motto was suggested in 1776 by Pierre Eugene du Simitiere to the committee responsible for developing the seal. Go to these coordinates: 40.6850170, -73.9188464

Question Time!

*******************

Once you arrive at the coordinates given above, you’ll probably know where the question is based off of. There should be a monument of a man holding a “shield” with writing on it. It says it one part, “Residents District _________ Fill in the blank. What is the district(s)?

  1. 31-32
  2. 41-42
  3. 32-31

Once you have your answer, head over to your next stop, Cleveland Street. The Z train does NOT stop at Cleveland St. ONLY take the J. You’re gonna be disappointed if you accidentally get on the Z. It’s not gonna take you near by…

(Unfortunately, the monument we tried to get you to go to is under construction. There is a temporary location that we’ll send you to. Once Dawn of Glory (the monument) isn’t going under construction and you can get closer to it, then we’ll get the official location for this question back up and running. I will be doing some maintenance runs on this cache, so if I spot that Dawn of Glory is “open” again, then I’ll let you know immediately and get the official question back up. If you spot that it’s “open”, please message me immediately to let me know. For now, go to these coordinates to answer the question: 40.6827486, -73.8878038
