This series highlights locations in Skagit County.
The Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railway. Co. (SLS&E) Incorporated on April 28, 1885. Starting at the Seattle Depot on the waterfront at Western Ave it ran Northwest along Elliot Bay, through Interbay to Ballard then eastward to Lake Union (1887). Woodinville to Snohomish in 1888 and into Sedro in 1890. Finally arriving in Sumas in 1891.
The trestle with a draw span, to allow passage of the sternwheelers running up as far as Rockport, was built in 1889/1890 and is the last legacy of the SLS&E.
SLS&E was one of three railroad lines arriving in Sedro in 1889-1891, the others being Fairhaven and Southern (F&S),from Bellingham, and Seattle & Northern (S&N) from Anacortes to Rockport.
