Three branches of the system linked Ernest, Clymer and Blairsville to the borough of Indiana. the trolley system was very popular- in peak years over 3 million passengers rode the trolley ( called the HoodleBug )to work, school and to shop in nearby towns. although time has erased many remains of the trolley system a few buildings, right-of-ways and bridge piers still exist. Before the installation of the trolley bridge over the Blacklick Creek, patrons riding the trolley between Blairsville and Indiana were required to disembark in the towns of Blacklick or Josephine. horse and buggy were provided to take patrons to another trolley to reach their final destination . The bridge crossed over the Pennsylvania a railroad Line , which connected the towns of Blacklick and Vintondale ….Today that R.R. line is used for the Ghost Town Trail. The 700-foot bridge, sitting high above Blacklick Creek , was purchased from American Bridge Company. It was supported by large concrete abutments, with an additional 20 foot steel trestle above that. At the southern end of the bridge a curved wooden trestle was used to connect the bridge to the rest of the trolley line. the route is designated Trolley Lane in the community of Blacklick. Riders on the trolley often described the ride over the trolley bridge as one of the most interesting and daring parts of their trip. To some it was reminiscent of riding a roller coaster.
