DESCRIZIONE
La tenuta di Tormarancia non è la classica villa romana dove i cittadini normalmente vanno a passeggiare e a prendere il fresco d'estate, bensì un'osasi verde ancora selvaggia, scampata all'urbanizzazione e alla speculazione edilizia ed inglobata nel parco dell'Appia Antica. Sono poche le persone incontrate durante l'escursione, quasi tutte a passeggio col cane, immagino provenienti palazzi frontalieri, entrati nella tenuta da passaggi non ufficiali che rendono un po' più avventurosa la passeggiata, chi invece vuole più tranquillità può accedere da tre ingressi: due sono dal lato di Via Giulio Aristide Sartorio, cioè in Piazza Lante e nella vicina Via Francesco Belloni. Un altro ingresso è da Viale Londra (lato Grotta Perfetta, Roma 70).
In breve:
Tormarancia trae probabilmente il suo nome da quello di Amaranthus, liberto della famiglia dei Numisi Proculi, nobili romani che avevano abitato la zona. Le torri che costellavano la campagna romana, erette per la difesa e l'osservazione, prendevano molto spesso il nome da quello delle famiglie proprietarie dei terreni su cui sorgevano. La scoperta di numerose necropoli nell'area testimonia l'importante collocazione del territorio ai margini della città e lungo la direttrice di due importanti vie: Ardeatina e Laurentina.

The Tormarancia estate is not the classic Roman villa where citizens normally go for a walk and take the cool air in summer, but a still wild green oasis, escaped urbanization and building speculation and incorporated in the Appia Antica park. Few people met during the excursion, almost all walking with the dog, I guess coming from border buildings, entered the estate by unofficial passages that make the walk a little more adventurous, who instead wants more tranquility can access from three entrances: two are on the side of Via Giulio Aristide Sartorio, that is in Piazza Lante and in the nearby Via Francesco Belloni. Tormarancia probably takes its name from that of Amaranthus, freedman of the Numisi Proculi family, Roman nobles who had inhabited the area. The towers that dotted the Roman countryside, built for defense and observation, often took their name from that of the families who owned the land on which they stood. The discovery of numerous necropolises in the area testifies to the important location of the area on the edge of the city and along the direction of two important streets: Ardeatina and Laurentina.
