Geocache Description:


This collection of caches has nothing to do with the Church Micro series in the UK. Given that the Australian 2016 census indicates that No Religion and Jedi Knight are the fastest increasing classifications of the optional religion question "What is the person's religion?" it is not surprising that there is surfeit of empty churches that have been repurposed.

1863 – Glanville Mission Church is built from bluestone rubble and brick.

1872 – Church of England ‘Mission Church’ opens on the corner of Semaphore Road.  The address is listed as 184 Semaphore Rd South, which latter becomes 92 Causeway Road.

1883 – Local register lists the building as a school. Teacher Miss Lindsay.

1884 – The Independent Order of Rechabites, a quasi religious biblical clan dedicated to sobriety based their interpretation of scripture, opens the the Good Samaritan Tent in the former church.

1909 – The Independent Order of Odd Fellows bought the building for their Glanville Lodge and named it the Exeter Hall.  Later the building was renamed the IOOF Hall.

1972 – The building is used as a maritime museum.

1985 –  The hall is sold to the National Trust.

1994  – Used 2B church becomes a private residence.

The current name of the building is listed on a plaque adjacent to the front gate.  Use this information to determine the location of the nearby geocache.
