A Meet and Greet event at MOD Pizza located at 3A Peninsula Center in Rolling Hills Estates on Pi Day, Saturday, March 14 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (3.14, 2020)
The first Pi Day was celebrated 3/14/15 at 9:26:53 (if you read the date and time it spells out the first digits of the number pi). The first "pie day" was probably 776 BC, when Greek citizens ordered pizza pies while watching the first Olympics. Okay, that might not be true, but to this day the most popular day for pizza is Superbowl Sunday. Of course, pizza as we know it could not have been invented until the Italians had tomatoes around 1548. New Yorkers would say pizza pies were invented in New York: Lombardi's, the first pizzeria in North America, was opened in 1905 on Spring Street in New York City's Little Italy neighborhood. Any way you slice it, Americans eat 3 billion pizza pies a year, more than the rest of the world combined.
This pi(e) Day Meet and Greet is a riff on the name of my June 2018 multi-cache Easy as pie (GC7PA3D) with the starting point at this very location. Come and meet fellow geocachers and exchange your latest geocaching adventure stories while enjoying homemade "pi" cookies. There are plenty of outside tables, and there are additional food and beverage venues a few steps away. There will be a trackables table for your travel bugs to show and/or move on. Bring your extra geocache containers and swag to share and/or pick-up. There will also be multiple door prizes as well as a grand door prize.
There is plenty of time to do a little local caching before and after the event.
