This is near the entrance to the Broadford Weighbridge complex. Probably not a good idea to do this cache when the weighbridge is taking all trucks in for checking - it does get very busy.
The Weighbridge
Heavy vehicle drivers can now use a new self-serve 24-hour weighbridge enabling them to weigh their load, avoid penalties and prevent wear and tear on Victorian roads.
Similar to electronic scales the bridge which is past Broadford on the Hume Fwy is a fixed site where trucks can drive on to a weighing plate to ascertain the mass of their vehicle and load.
The bridge is a shed-like structure with four plates fixed to the ground with the weight shown on a digital display fixed to the roof.
VicRoads Director Regulatory Services, Eric Henderson, says this is the first of many weighbridges to be rolled out across the state.
"We know from working closely with the trucking industry that when carting an unfamiliar load it can be difficult to judge the new combined weight.
"Vehicles up to 170 tonnes can now use the Broadford weighbridge to check the weight of their vehicle themselves, allowing drivers to make adjustments and ensure their load complies with regulations," he said.
The Cache
I know you are unlikely to be driving a big rig while you are caching, but as the man says it is 24 hour - self serve. I weighed the geo-vehicle, and it gave me front axle, rear axle, and combined weight - all on the screen hanging from the roof. Good for caravans too.
The cache is a small fruit container, you can find while adjusting your load.
