Established in 1899, Brackenridge Park is home to some of San Antonio’s most beloved attractions. It is situated just below the headwaters of the San Antonio River, and has been a gathering place for humans (and ducks) for 12,000 years. The rustic character of the 343-acre park remains today with tree-lined paths and picnic areas along 2.2 miles of the San Antonio River, playgrounds and softball fields, a miniature train, historic structures, the Witte Museum, the zoo, and the oldest municipal golf course in Texas. Brackenridge park is open from 5 AM and closes at 11 PM.
Rest your weary feet from a day of caching, or hiking and biking, and get on board the San Antonio Zoo Eagle! You can catch a ride on the train at the main depot near the zoo, but the cache is located near the minature train's "Kiddie Park and Children's Museum Depot". The Kiddie Park has since relocated and is now attached to the San Antonio Zoo, but you can hop off the train here and walk a short distance down Mulberry to Broadway, and the San Antonio Children's Museum. Restaurants abound in this area, and there is another park just across the street from here that has a wonderful play ground for the little ones.
I thought I would continue the Hike/Bike series that JMCz established in this area many many years ago. Brackenridge Park is truly a wonderful park to visit, and definitely diserves the attention of geocachers! The container here is a large bucket, painted brown with a Geocaching logo on it. There are separate containers within for SWAG and for Trackables. The trackable container, at the time of publishing, contains a number of unactivated trackables, five, to be exact. The first to find has their choice of which to take, and each finder after the first can take one with them as well.
