Geocache Description:

07 June 2020, 12:30 - 15:30

Attendees at Community Celebration events will qualify for a unique geocache icon.

This is a Community Celebration Event in North Wiltshire, close to the M4 Junction 17 (Chippenham exit).  It is also a countdown event for the Geolympix Mega GC8C8C9 at Stowe on 30th August 2020.

This event will be a party celebrating the 20th anniversary of Geocaching.  Geocaching started in May 2000 with changes to the GPS system which enabled more accuracy  This increased accuracy enabled anyone to find hidden containers, the first of which was hidden on 3rd May in Oregon, USA.  In December 2000 the first cache was hidden in the UK ("Scotland's First", GCF0) and in September 2001, we placed the first cache in Wiltshire, Avebury Stone Circle GC1B78.

GEOLYMPIX IV: Simply Paul will bring the latest news of Geolympix IV to be held at Stowe this Summer. There is more information about Geolympix here https://coord.info/GC8C8C9

THIS EVENT

TIMING: Sunday 7th June, 1230 - 1530

VENUE: Foxham Village Hall, Foxham, SN15 4NH.  This venue is 12 minutes from the M4 Junction 17 (Chippenham).  Dogs are allowed.

FANCY DRESS.  It would be great if you can come in fancy dress whether that is a Hawaiian shirt, Dr Who scarf, or full-on CosPlay.  There will be an anonymous vote for the best outfit and prize!  However, if you'd rather dress for caching with a funny hat or even not dress up, that's fine too.

PARTY FOOD  If you are able to do so, please bring some party food. It doesn't have to be homemade, anything straight from the shop is good.  Please mention what you intend to bring in your log so that we don't get 30 packets of crisps!  You can add this by a log edit later, please log a Will Attend if you are coming.  Ideas for food to bring might be small cakes, a few sandwiches, some fizzy drink, sausage rolls, biscuits or jaffa cakes. We'll be bringing Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Milk, some soft drinks and a Celebration Cake. Please don't bring anything that may go off if not refrigerated whilst you travel or go caching for hours first! If you have any dietary requirements then please bring what you need.

FTF and GAMES:  When you sign in at the logbook you'll get an entry into the FTF draw to be drawn at 1500 (one entry per team).  You have to sign the log book and then be present at 1500 in order to qualify to win this.  We also have some games being planned.  Games are not compulsory and winners will be announced at 1500. If you'd be willing to provide a suitable game for the event then please let me know.

PARKING  There is some hardstanding parking at the hall. If it's dry then overflow parking is on the adjacent grass, or the grass along the road. If it's wet then overflow parking is on the road (please leave space for cars to pass).

DISABLED FACILITIES: The hall is accessible and has a Disabled toilet.

NEARBY CACHING: There is a lovely circuit of 25 caches / 6 miles which goes right past this hall and many other lovely caches in the area.
