This Event is being held at the CNoR Historic Buiding in Fort Langley,
The station was built for the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) in 1915 as agriculture expanded and new settlement drew people into the Fraser Valley. Absorbed by the Canadian National Railway in 1918, its life as a passenger station spanned the steam through diesel eras until 1980.
So there is no better place to talk the History of Geocacing and learn about the game that has brought us to this Event.
The time of the Event is 1100 - 1300 at the posted coordinates.
This Event will allow Geocachers a chance to learn about Geocaching and it's History over the last 22 years.
Many of the newer Geocachers know little of how it strated and where.
When Geocaching started there was no such thing as smart phones and Geocaches had to be found using a GPS. Those early GPS units were not very accurate for many reasons which we will discuss. Those GPS did not come with detailed maps and if you did get a GPS that could take maps you paid a small price for those maps.
- During the time of this Event we will discuss early Log Book enreries and how important those entries can be to your fellow cacher and the Cache Owner (CO).
- One has to learn to log a DNF, consider it a badge of honour in a way because it serves many puposes which we will discuss.
- We will discuss the placement of a Geocache and the good and the bad points of the location you would like to use.
- Want to know what all those 2-4 letter words mean in the hint? Lets talk about them.
- We will also talk about Celebrating milestones in Geocaching as many are not aware there are many ways that you can celebrate one. We will include a few during the Event.
- What you as a Geocacher should carry when Geocaching or what is called TOTT.
- Lastly we plan on cutting the cake to celebrate one major Milestone that only comes once in your Geocaching time and that is 50,000 finds for sweet-marie.
