A long time ago, (but not in a galaxy far away), we hosted Singapore Geocaching Scavenger Hunts I (link) and II (link), a pair of events where the community was unleashed to track down bizarre items and complete mildly-to-moderately embarrassing tasks in broad daylight. 5 years have passed, and just when you thought the insanity was over, we are back with a third installment, with two new diabolical organizers on the crew no less.
As with previous hunts, geocachers will form teams and will be unleashed into the wild to collect as many points as possible during the period of the game. There will be PRIZES for the teams with the most points, and possibly other random awards as well. The event will be held on Sunday, October 16 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and the starting point is at the posted coords, in front of the Sultan Mosque.
As per geocaching rules, you may log this event without participating in the hunt by signing the logbook at 9:30 a.m. at the starting point, although we may have crying-face emoji stickers to paste next to your name if you do so ;).
FAQ
What are the rules?
- You must sign up in teams of 2-4. If you're an individual, you should arrange to team up with other cachers, or with muggle friends. Just like SGSH II, you'll earn 5 points for each cacher with < 100 finds, and each muggle friend in your team! Please sign up with your individual caching names and indicate who your teammates are on your "Will Attend" log.
- Your team CANNOT split up for the duration of the hunt.
- Once the hunt has started, you're free to roam wherever you wish to complete the tasks, but, you know, stay off private property and within the boundaries of the law, please.
- The event will begin at 9:30 am. At that time, we'll hand out a list of items that you have to find, and off you go!
- There will be a dedicated Telegram group for the hunt, and there will be announcements posted on that group for certain time-sensitive tasks
- Bring us as many of the items as you can by 1:30 pm. You'll receive a number of points (specified on the list) for each item you bring us.
- Unless otherwise specified, you are not allowed to spend money to obtain any of the items.
- To get around, you may walk/jog/run or take public transport (bus or MRT). You may NOT use any private transportation (car, scooter, bicycle, skateboard, roller blades, Segway, etc.). You may NOT use taxis, Uber, Grab etc.
- Don't be late to return! You will be penalized for every minute you arrive past 1:30 pm (according to our phone clocks)
- The organizers are the final authority on whether or not your items qualify for points.
- Please be honest people and good sportsmen....and above all, have a great time!
Do I have to pay to enter?
Despite inflation and a soaring cost of living, the hunt remains, as ever, free.
Do I need any special equipment?
You'll need a camera/video camera for some of the tasks. Handphone camera works fine. You will also need access to the Internet to complete some of the tasks.
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
