St Maragret of Antioch Chuch, Marton is a simple, authentic early church that gives a glimpse into church life in the late Anglo-Saxon and Norman periods. The most renowned feature is its Saxon tower of herringbone limestone rubble masonry, with long-and-short quoins. Inside, this ancient atmosphere is perpetuated with the texture of the fabric; the small section of the 11th-century nave that can be seen between the tower and the N aisle; the fragment of an 11th-century cross head embedded in the chancel wall; and the fragments of an Anglo-Saxon cross at the W end of the S aisle.
