*This geocache is dangerous and required rock climbing / rappelling equipment and expertise*
This geocache involves a literal leap of faith since you will likely be rappelling to this geocache, leaning over the edge, and trusting your equipment in good faith.
You will need
- 60' climbing rope
- 26' cordalette loop for anchor (7mm diameter)
- Helmet and Harness
- Personal leash
- Rappelling device of choice
- traditional gear
-
- Size 10 black diamond hex
- Size 11 black diamond hex
- Size 4 metolius cam (x2)
- Size 5 metolius cam
- 10 locking carabiners
- klemheist loop for redundancy
For the rappelling device I recommend a figure eight for its simplicity and durability, though I personally beaner blocked the ropes so I could use a grigri and ascending set up since I was up and down the wall a lot doing recon and setting things up.
Here is a look at my recommended set up, using a five point trad cordalette anchor.
Attempting to climb this cliff face without climbing equipment is absurdly dangerous and beyond safe bouldering heights. Don't do it.
Lead climbing from the bottom would be really hard, far beyond my skill set / confidence. Bring a full rack and a skilled lead belayer. It'd be a struggle to place solid pro on the bottom half of the route.
Top roping is possible if you set up a similar trad anchor to the rappelling suggestion and made sure to extend the anchor over the edge to reduce rope drag. It'd be a tough route, possibly 5.10, though I haven't tried the whole thing yet. The opening mantle move is pretty sweet though. Let me know what difficulty you think it is.
Housekeeping
This geocache is placed here with permission.
Please hide it back where you found it. As always, please trade equal or higher value. There is limited space, so only very small trackables will fit. Make sure to bring your own writing stick.
Wear decent footwear - I have seen broken glass in the area in the past. If rappelling, you don't even need climbing shoes, just something closed toe that covers the whole foot.
First thing you do once topside is place a piece of protection and connect your leash to it. The top of the cliff is uneven and tripping would be a bad way to go.
