About Bon Scott

This cache was placed on the 40th anniversary of the death of Bon Scott (19 February 1980), and will be published 40th anniversary of Bon Scott's burial (1 March 1980).

Bon Scott was a well known Australian singer, famous for being the lead vocalist in the rock band AC/DC. Originally from Scotland, Scott moved to Australia in 1952 at the age of six. Scott spent four years living in Melbourne before settling in Fremantle.

AC/DC grew in popularity during the 70s, and their album Highway to Hell, release in 1979, hit the top 20 in the US. However, just as AC/DC's popularity was growing globally, on 19 February 1980, the shock death of Scott shocked the band, who momentarily considered disbanding. The recruitment of Brian Johnson as a new lead vocalist saw the release of the album Back in Black just five months later, as a tribute to Scott. The album became the third best selling album in history.

Scott was buried at Fremantle Cemetary and his grave is claimed to be one of the most visited in the country. A statue of Scott at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour stands as a tribute.
