The City of Bayswater is home to a culturally diverse and vibrant community set against the backdrop of four thriving town centres, over 380 hectares of green open space and a 10km stretch of the Swan River. It is located about 7 kilometres NE of the Perth CBD. The City covers an area of 34.6 square kilometres (13.4 sq mi) and has a population of 65,050 as at the 2016 Census.
The Bayswater Road District was created on 5 March 1897. On 1 July 1961, it became a shire following the enactment of the Local Government Act 1960. On 29 October 1983 it attained city status.
