Geocache Description:

14 March 2020, 09:00 - 12:00

Join us on Saturday March 14th from 9:00 AM to 11:00AM at Franklin Park as the Cool Cow Cachers host our third CITO event of 2020!

UPDATE:

Metro Parks has cancelled their work party on Saturday but our event will go on. The park is large enough that we can spread out and still practice our "social distancing" while doing good for the parks.

Seeing as this will now be a regular CITO event, we will shorten it to 2 hours from 9AM - 11AM.

For our March CITO, we're going to sleep in an extra hour (hence the sunrise-ish nature of the event) and then visit Franklin Park. We will again be working with Metro Parks Tacoma, this time during their Franklin Park Volunteer Work Party. We will be pulling ivy, grubbing blackberry and mulching. The parks department will provide all of the tools necessary but we suggest that you come prepared with a good pair of gloves, sturdy shoes and proper attire for the weather. Those who joined us at McKinley Park in November know that these are called work parties for a reason. We're going to earn our CITO 2020 Season 1 souvenirs the hard way!

Our main goal is to provide extra manpower for the heavy lifting, but those who would like a little bit of a lighter work day are free to join us and spend a few hours doing trash pick up. Franklin Park encompasses more than 20 acres so were sure you'll find plenty to do. Trash bags and some grabbers will be provided but if you have your own by all means bring them.

We'll again provide hot beverages and morning treats to give you a little kick start but that is not the only benefit to be earned. Metro Parks Tacoma has a great program that allows volunteers (that's you) to log hours spent working in the parks to earn a pass good for discounted or free access to many Metro Parks facilities and programs.

Click here to fill out an application and start recording your volunteer hours.

Our city parks are an integral part of the geocaching experience in Tacoma. There are currently 124 active geocaches within 41 different Tacoma Parks. (For those of you working on the Tacoma Black Cow Challenge, fully one third of the required caches are within a Tacoma Park.)

In 2020 we've decided to hold a series of monthly CITO events. Each month we will visit a different park and some months we may even visit a couple of smaller parks during the day. Once per season, for the March, June, September and December events we will once again join forces with Metro Parks Tacoma for one of their regularly schedule volunteer work parties.

CITO can happen on every geocaching adventure, not just during events! Pick up trash that you see on the trail. Clean up the area around each geocache. These small acts make a huge difference.

This event is being hosted by a WSGA member. If you are a geocacher in the state of Washington, please consider joining Washington State Geocaching Association. See the WSGA website for details.
