I took my first hike on the new Oak Cove Trail in Calero County Park today. It's a beautiful, mostly-flat trail that winds around the edge of the reservoir in and out of beautiful old oak trees. It has a nice combination of sun and shade, which will be welcome in the summer. This cache is hidden on the Oak Cove Trail, a little over two miles from the main Calero parking lot. If you hike the entire Oak Cove Trail and come back via Serpentine Loop > Pena Trail, it's roughly an 8-mile loop.
You're looking for a regular-sized cache (not an ammo can) hidden about fifteen feet off the trail on the uphill side. It's a simple hide that should be obvious once you get close. From the cache site, look across the trail to the remains of a dead tree about 10' tall. My son climbed up there and wanted to hide the cache in the top, but I vetoed the idea. Let me know if you would have voted for his suggestion instead!
Calero trail hours are sunrise to sunset. Happy hunting!
