Geocache Description:

A few months after the social unrest in Charlottesville in 2017, two monuments in Lexington, one of CSA Gen. John Hunt Morgan and the other of CSA Secretary of War John C. Breckinridge, were removed from the grounds of the old Lexington courthouse and Cheapside Park. Cheapside Park itself was the site of the a large slave market before the Civil War, and the park has since been renamed to Henry Tandy Centenial Park.

The monuments remained in storage for almost a year until they found homes in Lexington Cemetery.  The Morgan statue is now found in the Confederate section of the cemetery along side other Confederate monuments. The Breckenridge statue is now found next to the Breckenridge family plot.

At the posted coordinate, the Breckenridge statue is found. At this location, find the following information:

  • B is the count of the letter V on the statue's base plus one.
  • In the family plot, find the headstone in the shape of a cross with Frontier Nursing Service on its base. Add the last two digits of the birth year together to get A.
  • On that same headstone, Y is the last digit of the birth year.

The second stage is at the Morgan statue.

  • X is the number of points on one of Morgan's spurs minus one
  • On the nearby Confederate memorial at the section corner, the number order of those remembered is quite odd. The number following 100th name is not 101. Z is the last digit of the number that follows 100.
  • Find the last numbered name on the same Confederate monument. C is the second digit of that last number.

The cache is found at N 38° 3.ABC' W 84° 30.XYZ'. The checksum of A + B + C + X + Y + Z = 31.

The cache is a lock-and-lock plasticcontainer with log and room for small trade items. As always bring your own writing insttument.
