Geocache Description:

This cache was GC3P84E by Bethden and I am reinstating it to remember Bethden.Original log has been left in place.

Hustling Hinkler up in the sky fair or windy
He’s flying high peerless fearless knows every cloud
The kind of a son makes a mother feel proud
Bustling Hinkler rides all alone in a little plane all his own
Hustling Hinkler showed them the way
And he’s the hero of the day.

This is the chorus of a song written to celebrate the achievements of Bundaberg born world famous aviator…Bert Hinkler. This cache takes you to three places closely connected to his story.

One waypoint takes you to the former Bundaberg Foundry, now called Bundaberg Walkers, at the end of Gavin Street. Hinkler worked in the foundry and many of the brackets etc to construct his early gliders were made here. In 1921 Hinkler flew non stop from Sydney and landed on what was called the foundry green. This flight broke the world record for the longest non-stop flight set by him the previous year.

A in the GZ co-ordinates = the digit not repeated in the foundation date of the foundry.

the other waypoint. S24 51.538 E152 20.721

You are now at the spot where Hinklers boyhood home,Woodbine Cottage, stood until destroyed by fire . On this site he built his early glider in which he made his first flights at Mon Repos beach. After his trip from Sydney and landing at the foundry green in 1921 he taxied his Baby Avro down Gavin Street and parked in the front yard of his mothers home. The house stood at the eastern end of the business now on the site.

B in the GZ co-ordinates = the number of letters in the name of either of the streets that cross (same number in each )

GZ co-ordinates are S24 BA.403 EAB2 20. 420

The hockey ground here is where Hinkler landed when he visited Bundaberg following his solo England to Australia flight in 1928. They are named after him as is the Street in front of them…Hinkler Avenue. Just a little further along is North Bundaberg State School where Bert and the rest of his family attended school. Also nearby in the botanical gardens are the lagoons where he studied the flight of birds and developed his love of flying. He named one of his inventions, the amphibious twin engine push/pull aircraft, the Ibis after one of the birds whose flight fascinated him.
Also in the Botanical Gardens there are two other popular attractions which tell much more of the Hinkler story. Not only was he a great aviator but he was also a gifted engineer and inventor.

You are looking for a magnetic nano. . Bring your own pen. A tweezers also helpful. Spoilers could be a problem on hockey days.
