Geocache Description:

Salty Dog is a nickname for an ornery sailor who has spent much of their career aboard a ship at sea. They possess a tremendous amount of knowledge pertaining to maritime traditions and vessel operations. This cache series is a tribute to all those Ol' Salty Dogs out there, especially those of the US Coast Guard.

This cache series is intended to be both entertaining and educational. There are sixteen (16) individual puzzle caches that are part of this series.

In order to find the physical location of this cache, eight (8) different "puzzle pieces" will have to be located which will provide the needed number for each missing decimal minute digit of this puzzle cache's coordinates.

There are two copies of each of the eight "puzzle pieces." Therefore, at a minimum, eight of the puzzle caches must be solved and located. At worst, fifteen would have to be solved and located to be able to find the eight different pieces. The better challenge would be to solve and locate all sixteen in order to fill in the entire geo-art anchor with smilies.

The "puzzle pieces" are identified by Coast Guard enlisted rating specialty badges. Ratings are general occupations that consist of specific skills and abilities. Each rating has its own specialty badge, which is typically worn on the left sleeve of the service dress uniform of enlisted personnel in that particular field.
