A small town library is the heart of the community. It is truly more than just a good read! Whether you are one of the Home Schoolers who gather to share ideas or a teenager hanging out with friends at teen gaming; this small town library is truly a safe haven. The Sumas Library has the good fortune to share its locality with the Sumas Senior/Community Center, located just across a shared lobby. Senior/Community Center visitors can stop in to read the paper, browse the used books sale area or check out a wide variety of items on their way to attend the many activities offered at the center. The Sumas Library was formed in 1911 and joined the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) in 1947. Since its formation there have been many changes and growth. In 1990 it survived a major flood with water reaching over a foot inside the walls! A unique feature of the Whatcom County Library System is a reciprocal borrowing agreement allowing card holders from the Fraser Valley Regional Library (British Columbia) to get a WCLS library card. This is a quick park and find. Watch out for the muggles, but do feel free to say hi to the friendly library staff who are in on the secret. Please respect the fact that this is a border town. The local law enforcement and border patrol is always on the lookout. Do not search for this cache after dark.
