The following is a simple enough puzzle that I thought of months ago, and finally hid. I, DreamMachine, have had many dreams, as any other cacher has, however in my studies of surrealism and abstraction, I see connections to dreams from various points in art history and several pillars of life, as others do. There's a strange quality to some of these artworks, but in some way they do encompass the notion of surreal understanding and experience. I love going to the AGO at times and just studying some of these artisits, like Yves Tanguy, Josef Sima and other notable modernist/surreaist artists. The final is a typical-ish DreamMachine hide hidden nearby.
A) Georges Papazoff is a surrealist and modernist artist known for his darker palettes and simplified perspectives. In what year did he create "Red Glove and White Glove"? Find the digital root, and then multiply that number by 6 for A.
B) In the art piece 'Tutto qui" from 1987, you'll see several large square paper sheets that lead your eye around the composition. How many are there? Multiply this answer by 3 for B.
C) Simon Hantai is an artist who's been inspired from many different techniques and perspectives in the later twentieth century. In his 1980 painting featuring a grid-like pattern that's of a BRIGHT yellow hue, how many quadrangles are in the composition? Multiply this number by thirteen for C.
D) Josef Sima was a unique and powerful contributor to modernist painting in the latter twentieth century. In his piece "Drops of Light", how many dark shapes are present? Multiply that number by twenty six for D.
E) Joseph Kosuth is a well known conceptual artist that made a considerable impact on how art was seen in the later twentieth century. In his 2015 piece "A Monument of Mines", how many neon elements were used? Divide this number by eight for E.
F) Frank Stella is a minimalist painter who was known for using house paints in his compositions. In what year was his piece "The Marriage of Reason and Squalor" created? Take the last two digits for F.
G) The Polish sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz is known for her unique, meticulously created and often strange looking textile creations. In her first showing of the Crowd series, how many burlap figures were exhibited at the Fondazione Cini in Venice? Multiply this number by eight for G.
