Geocache Description:

Welcome to Justins Bay Sunset & Sunrise Shelter!

You are searching for a preform container that contains only a log. This geocache destination is accessible by canoe or kayak ONLY, with 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center as a recommended launch. Parking and slough trail-head coordinates are provided for convenience.

Travel time is dependent on the individual and vessel, but you can plan on at least a 2-hour adventure. Cachers should be prepared by checking weather and tide forecasts, as well as bringing water and sun protection. Please practice cache in - trash out, to help preserve our delta and natural resoures. Enjoy the outdoors and have a great time!

More information on this shelter/campsite and the Bartram Canoe Trail can be found below:

In January 2018 Alabama State Lands implemented the Lower Bartram Canoe Trail system, which provides opportunities for recreational boaters, specifically canoeist and kayakers, to enjoy the rivers, streams, lakes, sloughs and bayous of the Delta. Currently, the State Lands Division maintains four elevated camping shelters on the east side of the lower delta that are available for overnight use. These shelters are accessible from several local landings including Historic Blakely State Park and 5 Rivers Delta Center. These campsites are limited to groups no larger than eight and are available by reservation only. Reservations are limited to canoeists and kayakers.

The Justins Bay shelters include two camping shelters connected by an ADA accessible boardwalk and an ADA accessible kayak/canoe launch. Access to the shelters is available through a narrow slough on the southern end of Justins Bay. The shelters face in opposite directions and overlook Justins Bay to the East and the Apalachee River to the West. These shelters also provide stairway access to the uplands where camping fires are allowed within the existing fire rings. The shelter includes a fixed dock for loading and unloading, a cooking table, benches, eye hooks for hammocks, and a curtained privacy area located in the corner of the shelter.
