This Geocache is one of twelve that were launched in association with the 20 Years of Geocaching in Oakwoods GC8JZM1 Celebration event. The theme of this series is The History and Features of Oakwoods.
“Old” S. Huron Road: This section of trail, which runs through Oakwoods and along the Huron River, was once a stretch of S. Huron Road. It ran just to the north and east of the Park entrance. This small section of road was closed off after the Metroparks purchased the land in the early 1970s. "Old" S. Huron Road also continued to the north through present-day Willow Metropark. Current S. Huron Road is to the north near I-275 and to the south near Will-Carelton Road. The section "missing" between the parks is "Old" S. Huron Road.
The black line on the map is "Old" S. Huron Road. The blue line on the map is the Huron River. The area in the grey zone is the approximate location of the current Oakwoods Metropark. The map is from the 1900s.
This cache is located in Oakwoods Metropark. A Metroparks vehicle permit is required for entry to the parks: $10 daily pass, $40 annual pass, $29 annual seniors pass.
