Mogar Jr. and I decided we would go for a brisk 7 mile hike down the West Side Trail, packing everything we needed and camp for the night. We made the hike in good time and got everything setup and made dinner. As we finished cooking, the sky got dark with clouds and it began to sprinkle. Then a sprinkle turned into a downpour. We took cover under the bathroom awning. The rain had mostly stopped but our decided campsite was soaked. We decided we would hike back to civilization in the dark. The trail is very well marked and hiking in the dark was not difficult but if our flashlights had died we would have had to wait until morning because it was pitch black even with 75% moon in the sky. Earlier in the day I had hidden a cache here to commemorate the trip and although it didn’t turn out the way I would have liked, it was a fun night.
There are 2 ways to get this cache:
Option #1 You follow in our footsteps and expierence what we did by starting at the West Side trailhead. If you do that there are a few other caches on the way.
Option #2 You drive Buchanan Rd/Forest Rte 1N04/Fish Hatchery Rd (all the sme road, it just has multiple names) to the parking spot and walk 100 ft. This is a nice day use area for a picnic and there is no charge to use it.
