The South Country History series is a new series of geocaches being placed at locations of rural schools, churches, cemeteries, cenotaphs, and former townsites in south central Saskatchewan.
Established in June 1916, Gondney School District #3781 was named for Goudney, MB, the 'U' being mistaken for 'N'. The school, contracted by Waterman-Waterbury, was built in 1917 one mile west of this location on land purchased for one dollar. Classes began March 11, 1918 with 13 pupils. Two spoke English; others Norwegian, Swedish, or French. The school closed in 1940 and the building was sold in 1955.
