Geocache Description:

Haldon Gate is the name of the crossroads where the steep road up from Ashton joins the Haldon ridge road. Cycling the Haldon ridge from the top of Jackdaw Hill to Longdown is one of the most delighful 14 kilometres to be found anywhere in Devon. For motorists there is a large free car park at the junction.

Haldon Belvedere (Lawrence Castle) is right here too, at 244 metres above sea level with panoramic views over the Exe Valley and Devonshire countryside. It is open every Sunday afternoon (2pm to 5pm) from Easter until September.

The grounds are free and open to the public at anytime, but access to the upper lawn will be restricted when wedding ceremonies are underway. Visitors can also use the picnic tables near the castle.

heartradio's Adventure Lab series Welcome to Devon! starts here, and is a thoroughly recommended circuit that will take you about a couple of hours. It has 5 physical stages with 5 fun field puzzles and 2 virtual stages.

Another geocaching highlight of the area is POWs' utterly brilliant muli-cache, Haldon Wooden Walk. The information needed for stage 1 of this cache is on the signpost labelled Haldon Gate. The trail takes about 1½ to 2 hours, but is well worth it.  So, all-in-all, this is a great geo-centre, and parking is free.
