Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the ski trail in Southville State Forest. You can find a trail map here: https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/81244.html and there is more information about the state forest here: https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/81237.html

Parking is just off the road. You can either hike or ski to the cache. The cache will be available in winter. The trail should be easy to follow in any season and is well-marked. It is a wide trail and fairly flat. If you do the full loop, your hike will be 2-3 miles depending on how you do it. Going straight to and from the cache will be about 2 miles. You could technically drive in a bit closer, but you won't be able to get even halfway and you risk running into some mud and losing out on a nice walk.

This is a really nice place to walk down by the river or to camp (an appropriate distance away from the trail and water of course). We encourage you to take the time to do the full loop and find our other cache in the area as well.

It's advised to wear orange and stick to the trails during hunting seasons as this forest is used by hunters occasionally (September to December and some bird seasons through February and turkey in May).
