Ikkunani takana polku
hento ja lähes kadonnut
erottuu utuisella niityllä
jo kauan se on minua kutsunut
joskus kuiskaten
joskus huutaen
mutta aina varmistaen
etten pääse unohtamaan sitä
ja vihdoin tänään
tänään en enää vastusta sen kutsua
tänään nousen vuoteeltani
tänään kiipeän kaiteen yli
tänään kuljen talojen ja maston ohi
kuin ne olisivat vain haamuja
todellisen maailman laidoilla
ja kun polku erkanee vasemmalle
kalliopahdan ja meren väliin
vehreään rantametsään
se löytää viimein itsensä
se ylittää lähteen
jo kauan aikaa virranneen
se ohittaa kyltin
jo kauan sitten maatuneen
se ohittaa nuotion
jo kauan sitten kylmenneen
ja kiivettyäni korkealle kalliolle
melkein huipun lohkareelle asti
aukeaa maisema avarimmillaan
silloin näen alarinteessä ikihongan
revityn ja hakatun
jykevän ja ikuisen
tuijottamassa meren taakse
sen juurelle minä jätän murheeni
sen juurelta minä löydän lohtuni

A path behind my window
frail and almost lost
trails the misty field
for long has it called upon me
sometimes screaming
sometimes whispering
always ensuring
that I may never forget it
and today at last
today I no longer resist its call
today I rise from my bed
today I climb over the railing
today I pass the houses and the mast
as if they were nothing by phantoms
at the far edges of reality
and when the path veers left
between the cliff and the sea
into a lush forest
it finally finds itself
it crosses the spring
eternally streaming
it passes the sign
fallen and rotting
it passes the campfire
cold and forgotten
and after climbing to a high cliff
almost to the boulder that marks its top
where the view opens at its broadest
then at last I see the ancient pine
torn and beaten
steadfast and eternal
downhill gazing beyond the sea
at its feet I leave my grief
at its feet I find my peace
