The Isle La Motte Presevation Trust focus is on the conservation of the 460 million year old Chazy Fossil Reef, a world renowned geological treasure, which underlies and outcrops much of the bedrock of southern Isle La Motte. The Chazy Fossil Reef, formed some 460 million years ago in an ocean that was located near the equator (over time this land was moved to VT by Continental Drift mechanisms). The Chazy Fossil Reef provides scientists with an extraordinary opportunity to study primitive reef formation, shedding light on a fascinating period in thehistory of life on earth. In 2009 Goodsell Ridge Chazy Fossil Reef site was awarded the prestigious designation of National Natural Landmark by the US Dept of the Interior.
