Nossa Senhora do Desterro é um título dado à Santíssima Virgem Maria. Representa a fuga da Sagrada Família para o Egito e por isso, também é conhecida como Nossa Senhora da Fuga. É muito venerado na Itália como "Madonna degli Emigrati" sendo padroeira das pessoas que são obrigadas a deixar o seu país ou a procurarem trabalho no estrangeiro.
A Capela de Nossa Senhora do Desterro localiza-se na freguesia de Arada no Concelho de Ovar, distrito de Aveiro. A capela remonta a 1663, cuja inscrição no seu frontispício foi posteriormente reconstruída no século XX. A torre sineira data de 1906.
Segundo um lenda, neste local, apareceu em cima de um rochedo uma imagem de nossa Senhora. Essa aparição repetiu-se tantas vezes, que os habitantes decidiram colocar a imagem na Igreja Paroquial. No dia seguinte à instalação da imagem na igreja paroquial, esta voltou a aparecer no local inicial. Perante isto, os habitantes concluíram que era a vontade de nossa Senhora ficar ali e decidiram fazer deste um local venerado. Tentou-se então erguer uma capela com pedra extraída da zona de pedreira, mas não houve maneira de vencer a dureza do material. Então, por milagre, a pedra toda apareceu partida, permitindo assim a construção desta pequena capela.
O nome "desterro" está associado ao local onde uma imagem apareceu, que era completamente despovoada.
As festas em honra de Nossa Senhora do Desterro são celebradas tradicionalmente no primeiro domingo após a Páscoa.

Nossa Senhora do Desterro is a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She represents the escape of the Holy Family to Egypt and is therefore also known as Our Lady of Escape. She is highly revered in Italy as the "Madonna degli Emigrati" and is the patroness of people who are forced to leave their country or seek work abroad.
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Desterro is located in the parish of Arada in the Municipality of Ovar, district of Aveiro. The chapel dates back to 1663, whose inscription on its frontispiece was later rebuilt in the 20th century. The bell tower dates from 1906.
According to a legend, in this place, an image of Our Lady appeared on top of a rock. This apparition was repeated so many times that the inhabitants decided to place the image in the Parish Church. The day after the installation of the image in the parish church, it reappeared in its original location. Faced with this, the inhabitants concluded that it was Our Lady's will to stay there and decided to make this a venerated place. There was then an attempt to build a chapel with stone extracted from the quarry area, but there was no way to overcome the hardness of the material. Then, by a miracle, the whole stone appeared broken, thus allowing the construction of this small chapel.
The name "desterro" is associated with the place where an image appeared, which was completely uninhabited.
Festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora do Desterro are traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.
