This is my first paddle cache on Lake Herrington. All of the lake is surrounded by private property but there are numerous boat ramps and the parking coordinates are listed for several. There is usually a $5-6 fee and a pay box. More access locations can be found at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife page:
Dunn Island is an unusual triangular island near Danville. It is privately owned and was named Fryingpan Bend prior to construction of the lake in 1925. The cache was placed on 5/17/2020 on a six mile solo paddle when the water gauge was 741'. Pay close attention to the level since the caches are hidden very close to that level and several will not be accessible above 742'. Some will be accessible at much lower levels but a few of the cliffside hides will require levels in the range 738-743'. The Dix River gauge at the dam shows when the hydro gate is open and is helpful for predicting the lake level. There were a few speedboats zooming around but it was not too crowded. Be sure to rehide caches well since there are lots of fisher muggles around. Most containers are full-sized preform tubes wrapped in black fiber cloth ziptied to roots or rocks. You may have to lift some small rocks. I placed the caches in a counter-clockwise loop but found myself always paddling against the flow. You would do better to do clockwise loop unless it has not rained for some time.
