Geocache Description:

The Millbrook Village development stand on the site of two former gentlemen’s ‘out of town’ residences – Fairfield House and Millbrook.

The name Millbrook derives from the brook that served Countess Wear paper mill, the remains of which can still be seen today.

Thereafter the property was bought by Dame Georgiana Buller in 1937 and St Loye’s Residential College of Training and Rehabilitation for the Disabled was established. In 70 years just over 16,000 students were trained at St Loye’s.

But before all this recent history, this area was a works supply base for the Roman fortress (Legio II Augusta) in Exeter c.55 – c.75 AD

In 2008 the site as sold and is now a Retirement Centre where we now live part of the year. We still have close ties to South Africa and return to Hout Bay for the Southern Summers. We thoroughly enjoy caching here in Devon, which has taken us to many lovely and historical places.

This is just a small thank you to all those English cachers who have made our last five years here, great fun.
