This is a simple off set multi that leads to a screw top container placed on a country lane.
Clyst St George is the southernmost of six parishes along the route of the river Clyst whose source lies just outside Plymtree. The river runs 24 miles through Mid Devon and discharges in to the river Exe just below Topsham.
So how about a little bit of history about this church? It was first built in the 14th century with the tower and nave being the only original parts of the building. The chancel dates to the 1420s but everything else you can see was created in the Victorian rebuilding of 1851.
This church has a claim to fame in the form of Henry Thomas Ellacombe (1790-1885). In his latter years he was a rector of Clyst St George church and arrived at church one day to find his bellringers too drunk to ring in the service. He invented the Ellacombe Apparatus which allows one person to ring multiple bells in a church and this concept has been used at churches all around the world.
I am sure you agree that this is an interesting building. If so then let me inspire you further. Look at the glass in the windows and note that it is largely clear. This is because the church was bombed in the Second World War. Why bomb a small village in the middle of nowhere you ask? I don't know but if you know then please let me know! This unusual incident is the theme for the cache.
Go to the porch and you will see one of these bombs in a display case. It is a particular type of bomb:
- If the type of bomb has 6 letters then the cache is at N 50 41.541
- If the type of bomb has 8 letters then the cache is at N 50 41.558
- If the type of bomb has 10 letters then the cache is at N 50 41.582
Look for the location that the bomb fell:
- If the bomb fell in the organ then the cache is at W 003 26.350
- If the bomb fell in the nave then the cache is at W 003 26.362
- If the bomb fell in the vestry then the cache is at W 003 26.381
You are looking for a screw top container about 4cm across. Think of it as a big micro or a small small. It is big enough to hold an inner film pot but there is no room for trackables.
