Edificato probabilmente nel X secolo, sorgeva alla sommità di un colle naturalmente protetto da un dirupo e dal fiume Tagliamento. La posizione consentiva il controllo della strada pedemontana già citata nel V secolo da Venanzio Fortunato e della stretta del Tagliamento, sulla cui riva opposta si trova il più antico castello di Ragogna.	Probably built in the 10th century, it stood at the top of a hill naturally protected by a cliff and the Tagliamento river. The position allowed the control of the piedmont road already mentioned in the 5th century by Venanzio Fortunato and of the Tagliamento narrow part, on whose opposite bank there is the more ancient castle of Ragogna.
Tenuto dai signori di Pinzano fino al 1344, anno in cui si verificò un famoso eccidio che coinvolse vari rami della famiglia, fu quindi ceduto dal patriarca di Aquileia ai Savorgnan che lo tennero fino alla caduta della Repubblica Veneta.	Held by the lords of Pinzano until 1344, the year in which a famous massacre occurred involving various branches of the family, it was then ceded by the patriarch of Aquileia to the Savorgnan who kept it until the fall of the Venetian Republic.

Il complesso fortificato si estendeva su una vasta area protetta da tre cinte murarie, da bastioni e da torri, e fu più volte ampliato e ristrutturato, in particolare dopo i terremoti del 1348 e 1511.
In periodo post medievale venne creata l'attuale strada sul lato sud del colle, che consentiva l'accesso al maniero senza passare, come accadeva per il vecchio percorso, dalla zona occidentale che ospitava il borgo e la chiesa di San Nicolò. A seguito del terremoto del 1766 del castello oggi rimangono imponenti ruderi in particolare alla sommità del colle, mentre lungo il versante meridionale sorgeva l'antico borgo castellano del quale ancora si conservano le fondazioni delle case.

The fortified complex extended over a vast area protected by three walls, bastions and towers, and was repeatedly enlarged and renovated, in particular after the earthquakes of 1348 and 1511.
In the post-medieval period it was created the current road on the south side of the hill, which allowed access to the manor without passing, as happened for the old route, from the western area that housed the village and the church of San Nicolò. Following the 1766 earthquake of the castle, today imposing ruins remain in particular at the top of the hill, while along the southern slope stood the ancient castle village of which the foundations of the houses are still preserved.

Il castello di Pinzano è da sempre oggetto di numerose leggende e credenze popolari. Secondo molte di queste, nei sotterranei del castello (dove un tempo vi erano anche le prigioni della giurisdizione), sarebbe stata collocata una camera dove i signori Pinzano avrebbero nascosto la loro imponente fortuna, frutto delle loro scorrerie nel Friuli. Sempre dai sotterranei, si dice ci siano delle gallerie segrete che si snodano al di sotto del territorio. Una di queste giungerebbe fino al fiume Tagliamento e sarebbe stata usata dalla figlia adottiva dei Pinzano per fuggire durante l'eccidio del 1344.

The Castle of Pinzano has always been the subject of numerous popular legends and beliefs. According to many of these, in the basement of the castle (where once there were also the prisons of jurisdiction), a room would have been placed where the Pinzano lords would have hidden their imposing fortune, the result of their raids in Friuli. Also from the basement, there are said to be secret tunnels that wind below the territory. One of these would go as far as the Tagliamento River and would have been used by the Pinzano's adopted daughter to flee during the 1344 massacre.

Lungo il sentiero potrete incontrare le capre di un'azienda agricola, il luogo della cache dovrebbe trovarsi lontano dai luoghi in cui abitualmente si trovano, ricordatevi sempre di chiudere i cancelli che trovate lungo il percorso.
La cache si trova sul lato ovest della fortificazione, ad un'altezza di poco più di 2 metri.

Along the path you will meet the goats of a farm, the cache place should be far from the places where they usually live, always remember to close the gates you find along the way.
The cache is located on the west side of the fortification, at a height of just over 2 meters.
