The Maryland Geocaching Society invites everyone to join us on Saturday, October 10th at 10:30 am for the 2020 MGS Fall Picnic at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, MD. We would like to invite everyone who has an interest in the game of geocaching to come and join us. You do not have to be a member of the MGS to attend. No matter if you have 10 or 10,000 finds, everyone is welcome!
One Fort, Three Wars
The stone fort built in 1756 protected Maryland’s frontier settlers during the French and Indian War. The fort saw service during the American Revolution as a prison for British soldiers. During the Civil War, Union troops were often stationed near the fort to guard the C&O Canal.
In 1922, the State of Maryland acquired the fort and in the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps restored the fort walls and began development of the state park.
On-site camping spots will be made available for geocachers. RV's and campers will be allowed to park on the premises even though there on no electrical hookups. Please check out the forums regarding camping reservations. Pets are allowed at this park though they need to be on a leash.
Our annual cornhole tournament is held during this event. Bring your skills and challenge some of the finest players in the caching community!
