Geocache Description:

Our "Awesome" series celebrates the 20th anniversary of Geocaching and the awesome cachers who have placed and maintained the other caches we have enjoyed here in Friendly Feilding, an awesome place to live.

The first recorded burial in Feilding Cemetery was in November 1886 though it is known to have existed before that.  Every man, woman or child commemorated here was a V.I.P. to those who loved them so please search quietly and respectfully.

If you are a local history buff or into genealogy you will find much of interest as you wander around. Many early settlers, citizens and dignitaries, some known nationally and even internationally, are memorialised by the headstones and markers. Among those are:

G.H.(Ged)CORRICK M.B.E. was Mayor of Feilding from 1968 - 1986 and was a director of Packwell Containers.

ELVA MILLICENT SANDILANDS was a talented music teacher who for many decades taught piano and singing to private students as well as teaching French and music at Feilding Agricultural High School.

SAM DAW,a veteran of the Crimean War, was the founder of the Feilding Municipal Band and mentor to the Salvation Army Band. He is purported to have taken his learners into the bush to practise "so as not to frighten the natives".

HERBERT JAMES DEWE was Mayor of Feilding from 1958 to 1965 and owned a wool buying business in Ferguson St. He was a prominent member of The Salvation Army and received the rare recognition of "Order of The Founder" from the church's International Headquarters.

WILLIAM JAMES B.TREWIN (JIM) was educated at the Sandon School, then took up teaching but left that for the legal profession, becoming a solicitor in Feilding in 1892 at the age of 22. Later his term as Mayor was the longest in Feilding's history up until 1912.

VERNON BRUCE SHORT (Bruce) was from a well known Manawatu District family involved in breeding stud sheep. A former Oroua County Councillor, he was elected Mayor of Feilding in 1965.

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE GIVEN COORDINATES. Proceed to each of the 6 additional waypoints and use the questions to find the coordinates of GZ where you will find a wicked nano awaits. BYO pen and do not attempt to remove the container from its anchor point.. The same TOTT may be helpful both in retrieving the cache and extracting the log sheet.
