BYOP
Shamrock Hut is a 2 bed hut located in the picturesque Ahuriri Conservation Park. There is a toilet near the hut.
Access to the trailhead is via Birchwood Road. This is a decent track and can be driven with a 2WD, but once you enter the Conservation Park, it is a 4WD track only. 4WDs can drive the last 9km all the way to the end of the road to the carpark and where the trail begins (though I have seen some 2WDs make it most of the way).
The hut can be reached via an easy 5.5km/1.5hr walk (one way) or approximately 30 minute mountain bike ride (as told to me by the mountain bikers I met at the hut).
The cache is a 200ml snaplock container.
There is no phone reception for the whole length of Birchwood Road so please let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.
