Lineage of Koch Creek Ranch can be traced back to 1861 when purchased by the Albert Koch family. The Ranch once stretched from the Blanco River to Twin Sisters. It was a working ranch with cattle and sheep. Blanco State Park, once part of the Ranch, was donated to the state in the early 1930s. This section of land has a creek, fed by 2 underground springs, running on the southeast side emptying into the Blanco River within the state park, hence the name Koch Creek Ranch. If standing behind the sign looking south is a modest white stone house. This is one of the oldest houses in Blanco with the first pictures of the house dated 1869. The house has undergone several renovations but the original structure is still evident.
This cache can be reached from Blanco State Park or Kendalia Road. If on Kendalia Road park on the right of way. No Parking signs are present but this is a quick find and at the most you will be parked 5 minutes. From the park or road it is a steep climb to reach the cache but gives a great view of the Blanco River, dam over river and the original Ranch. Depending on time of day turkeys and deer are present.
Enjoy the view!
