The Ho-Chunk People call the land of the Sauk Prairie area “Mąą Wákącąk” (maa-wah-kahn-chunk) or “Sacred Earth.” Their ancestors have lived in the area for thousands of years, their stories telling of the transformation of the region dating back to the ice age.
Geocaches in the Cache the History of Sauk Prairie (CHSP) Series are located along the Great Sauk State Trail. A state trail pass is required for all people age 16 or older biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, or in-line skating on certain trails. A state trail pass is not required for walking or hiking. Wisconsin state trail pass fees are the same for residents and non-residents. An annual pass is good for the calendar year and a daily pass is good for the day of purchase. See https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trailpass.html for more info.
