Geocache Description:

The Sauk Prairie area is home to an immense amount of history. Along The Great Sauk State Trail, there are multiple opportunities to explore and view its history up close and personal. Immerse yourself in the stories of the past that you’ll see. You never know what details might be important!

Four of the Nine “Cache the History of Sauk Prairie” Geocaches along the trail have a number stamped on the cache container. The numbers on those stamped geocaches will be used to unlock this final cache container at the coordinates listed here (hint, the container is inside). In order to discover the correct combination to unlock the cache, you must use the following puzzle:

  • This cache is dedicated to Sauk Praire’s role in many of the United States’ 20th-century military conflicts. Its digit is first in the combination.
  • This cache celebrates the “hard-working” Wisconsin River and a Sauk Prairie landmark built at the same time as the Panama Canal. Its digit is second in the combination.
  • This cache celebrates Sauk Praire’s successes in terms of Grape Growing and the development of Volunteer Fire Departments. Its digit is third in the combination.
  • This cache celebrates Sauk Prairie’s FIRST name from a time when great beasts wandered the area. Its digit is fourth in the combination.

Located inside the George Culver Community Library, this final cache is only accessible during the library’s operation hours listed below. Note that these times are subject to change. Irregularities in hours from various state/federal holidays or other situations may occur.

  • Monday-Thursday: 9:00-8:00
  • Friday: 9:00-5:30
  • Saturday: 9:00-2:00

Geocaches in the Cache the History of Sauk Prairie (CHSP) Series are located along the Great Sauk State Trail. A state trail pass is required for all people age 16 or older biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, or in-line skating on certain trails. A state trail pass is not required for walking or hiking. Wisconsin state trail pass fees are the same for residents and non-residents. An annual pass is good for the calendar year and a daily pass is good for the day of purchase. See https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trailpass.html for more info.
